Ana G. Méndez University (AGMU) participated in the 9th International Congress on Communication Research, held in Barcelona, Spain, presenting the paper Between immediacy and ethics in environmental citizen journalism: experiences in Puerto Rico, delivered by Dr. Víctor Manuel García-Suárez, professor at our School of Liberal Arts.
During his presentation, the researcher addressed the conceptual and ethical challenges of so-called citizen journalism in the environmental context.
As a result of his study, he proposed replacing the term “citizen journalist,” widely used but considered epistemologically imprecise, with “environmental community informant,” a definition more aligned with non-institutionalized practices and community contexts. His proposal was validated during the congress, and the study’s findings will soon be submitted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
Congratulations!
